  3. Helping business managers to take control of their web based systems

A large public sector entity had become even larger after a series of mergers and had ended up with systems which were being run from several different locations and were web based. The business managers were aware that their systems were not serving the best business interests of the firm and needed to review the way they were managed. The main proble was slow speed of response to requests to technical staff for changes to be carried out.

The project has to be completed in days and also involved working with several teams in the nes organisation which were not yet fully integrated.
Out brief was to review the interface procedures between the parties involved in web site management and to study the site content management organisation and procedures. We then had to compare their procedures and organisation with best practice and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of outsourcing the management of the site. Finally we had to ecommend action to improve the management of the site.

Because of other deadlines the completion date was not moveable so we had to deliver on time. We used our knowledge and experience gained in over twenty similar projects.

We interviewed all key members of staff in a structured but friendly way and by analysing their reponses were able to produce a report showing both the problems and three actions (all non technical) which would help resolve them. We achieved the deadlines and our solutions have been implemented leading to change requests being processed in less than half the previous time required.

1. Saving money and effort by making best use of a purchased system.
2. Increasing size and profit by integrating systems.
